How to host your tea tasting

Everything you need to pour, taste and score together, step by step.

Setting up

Your kit comes with the teas, extra tea samples for after the tasting, and paper tea filters. Have these ready too:

  • An electric kettle, ideally with temperature settings, or a kitchen thermometer
  • Heatproof teapots or pitchers of about 32 oz, one per tea
  • Small cups of about 2 oz, one per guest
  • A teaspoon, a timer and a small dish to show the dry leaves
  • Water and plain crackers to reset between teas
  • A bowl or bin for used filters

Here is how to set up your tasting, step by step.

  1. Seat everyone at one table.
  2. Put the teas out in tasting order, each with its water temperature and steep time.
  3. Set out water and crackers before guests arrive.

Brewing

  1. Heat the water to the temperature for that tea.
  2. Put the leaves in a paper filter and fold the top over the rim of the pot.
  3. Pour in the water and start the timer.
  4. Lift the filter out when the time is up, and pour soon after.

Each tea's leaf amount, water temperature and steep time are on your kit's instruction sheet and on the Brew screen of the digital guide. For a 32 oz pot, use four times the amount shown per 8 oz.

Tasting order

  1. Taste the teas in the order they are numbered in your kit.
  2. For each tea: look at the leaf, smell it, sip, and notice the finish.
  3. Reset with water or a plain cracker before the next tea.

Using the digital guide

  1. Scan the QR code in your kit, or open the link that comes with it, on your phone.
  2. Guests open the same guide on their own phones.
  3. Brew shows each tea's settings and a steeping timer.
  4. Taste is where everyone rates each tea.
  5. Reveal shows each person's favorite and tea personality.

Scoring as a group

  1. Each taster rates the teas on their own phone in the guide.
  2. On the Reveal screen, each taster taps Share my scores to copy a short code, then texts it to the host.
  3. The host opens Group scores, taps Add a guest and pastes each code.
  4. For a guest without a phone, the host taps in their leaf scores instead.
  5. The results show each tea's average leaves, a ranking and the "I'd buy" count. Tap More for the rest.

No sign-up needed. Scores stay on the host's phone.
